Canon Camera Connect Error 403

How to fix the sign-in error that's blocking you from using Canon Camera Connect.

If you’re seeing a 403 error when trying to sign into Canon Camera Connect, you’re not alone — it’s one of the most reported issues since Canon made login mandatory in April 2025.

What causes the 403 error

Error 403 means “forbidden” — the server is rejecting your login attempt. This typically happens because:

  1. VPN is active. Canon’s authentication servers block many VPN IP addresses.
  2. Password mismatch. Your Canon ID password may be different from what you think, especially if you have accounts on multiple Canon regional sites.
  3. Regional account conflict. A Canon ID created on one regional site (e.g., Canon Europe) may not authenticate correctly in the app in another region.
  4. Cached credentials. The app may have cached old login data that conflicts with your current account.

How to fix it

Step 1: Disable your VPN

If you use a VPN, turn it off completely before trying to sign in. This resolves the 403 error for many users. You can re-enable it after signing in, though some users report the VPN needs to stay off while using the app.

Step 2: Reset your password

Even if you’re sure your password is correct, reset it:

  1. Go to image.canon in a web browser.
  2. Click Sign In, then Forgot Password.
  3. Enter your email and follow the reset instructions.
  4. Set a new password.
  5. Return to Canon Camera Connect and sign in with the new password.

Step 3: Clear the app’s cached data

  1. Delete Canon Camera Connect from your iPhone.
  2. Reinstall it from the App Store.
  3. Sign in with your (possibly reset) password.

Step 4: Try creating a new account

If you still get a 403 after resetting:

  1. Go to image.canon in a browser (not in the app).
  2. Create a new account with a different email address.
  3. Verify the email.
  4. Sign in to Canon Camera Connect with the new account.

Step 5: Check your region

Make sure you’re creating your Canon ID on the correct regional site. If you’re in the US, use image.canon or usa.canon.com. If you’re in Europe, use your country’s Canon site. Using the wrong regional portal can cause authentication failures.

If nothing works

Canon’s support line has been overwhelmed with login issues since the mandatory sign-in was introduced. If the steps above don’t resolve the 403 error, you may need to contact Canon support directly — but be prepared for a wait.

Alternatively, you can use a third-party app that doesn’t require any login. Shutter+ connects to your Canon camera via the same WiFi and Bluetooth protocols but doesn’t require a Canon ID or any account at all. Download, connect, and use — that’s it.

Try Shutter+ free for 7 days — no login required.
